"The main focus of this manual is teaching interaction drills to improve one’s timing disciplines and rhythm skills for all styles and ranks."
Be one of the first martial artists to receive my new, over 200-page, Training Manual.
I am 100% confident that you will find the content unmatched by any other manual worldwide.
I've spent my entire life seeking and working with the world’s most brilliant teachers and training with history’s top fighters.
This manual is the culmination of my 49 years of training and teaching.
This edition has several new sections and instructional photos not included in my manual released last year. It includes:
- An entire section on the science of movement.
- A definition of angular attack and photo breakdown on each of the five angular attacks.
- Additional interaction drills with coach sparring sets and the three postures used for each.
- An eight-page section discussing the first principle in martial arts strategy, the art of distancing.
"No one knows in advance how combat nerves are going to hit you."
- Complete new section on "Developing the Fighters Rhythm." Photos of never
before taught rhythm set drills.
- "Sparring Coaching Tips" new section exploring what is an educated trainer. A first time list of the most common mistakes fighters commit. Great for critiquing any sparring.
- New section, "Top 20 Do’s and Don’ts."
- Added editorial info on the "Dirty Dozen", our attitude techniques. Each with added photos.
- Our fighting forms, called "Sequences", now include explanation on their history and
which tactics are designed to be used against which types of
opponents.
- New section on fun exercise drills called "Flurries". We’ve included six of the twelve that we teach such as the Cut-Time and Headhunter, two of my personal favorites for developing speed.
It’s truly some of the best work I’ve ever created...
Approach and attitude are the two most important attributes martial artists need before entering a sparring session or competition. Today there exists neither methodology nor instruction standards
that regulate the learning process and that also teach martial artists the discipline required to develop energies of the mind. This manual explores these types of subjects, along with what I call "mental fitness," one of the most important skills that any serious martial artist should learn.
I also cover in this manual how to use at least three different tactics against all opponent types: (1) the taller opponent, (2) the croucher/grappler, (3) the rusher/explosive fighter, (4) the jabber/lead leg sharpshooter, (5) the south-paw, (6) the slugger/inside trench fighter, (7) the counter fighter/entrapper, (8) the cat-and-mouse elusive runner, and (9) the hard kicker. Teaching correctly how to spar each of these styles involves the use of many tactical principles all serious instructors need to know.
"Do not let your opponent dictate your strategy."
- Understand the six levels of sparring.
- Avoid "The Top Forty Mistakes Fighters Commit".
- Internalize the sequence of a martial artist's most important attributes: rhythm, timing, judgment, speed, and accuracy.
- Master the five angles of attack.
- Learn the various containment skills and techniques.
- Incorporate several categories of interaction drills that can double your effectiveness as a fighter.
- Build your prefight attitude and increase your confidence.
- Know the correct way to defend against every technique and its best counter maneuver.
This manual is condensed into a structured, easy to learn method including both the mechanical skills and the mental process of strategic thinking.
"Always a student, sometimes a teacher."
This manual is also designed for instructors. Learn:
- How to teach sparring drills to those who fear competitive combat.
- My unique glossary of martial arts fighting definitions, which you can integrate into your own speaking and teaching.
- How to improve teaching skills by learning proper sparring vocabulary. When students hear you tell them "to squeeze", "line him up", and then "turn him" they will know exactly how to score against tougher opponents.
- How to add a few short kickboxing forms (kata) to your curriculum - kata that complement your present style.
- How to increase any instructor’s mental sharpness by exercising the challenge of learning new things. Students become more focused and alert in many areas of their daily awareness when these thinking processes are taught and integrated.
This manual is intended to help instructors to be mentally fit and physically sound in their own performance and practice of martial arts, as well as assist them in training others.
